Breast Cancer: The Facts

Around 16,000 Australians will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016, including over 1100 women living in southern metropolitan Melbourne. Approximately 20% of all inpatient hospital admissions for breast cancer treatment in Victoria are at hospitals in the SMICS region, with Monash Health Moorabbin and Cabrini Brighton serving the largest numbers of women.

Thankfully, Australia has one of the highest survival rates in the world; across all stages of the disease, the five-year survival rate is over 89%. If the cancer is caught early, this survival rate can be as high as 98%.
